Bible Reading: Philippians 4:6-7
Focus Verse: and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 (NKJV)
One morning, I was praying about a mental storm that I face regularly in my life. At one point, I began sharing with God that I was tired of fighting this storm. I would find myself consistently praying mighty prayers against it. At the mere sight of clouds forming, I would rebuke them and command them to dissipate. “Although the clouds may form, God, I pray that they just pass over and cause no destruction.”
But after a while, that gets tiring, really tiring! While sharing with God my feelings, these were His instructions:
“Don’t pray against the storm, pray for peace in the midst of the storm.”
Have you ever been in this place before? Weary from consistently fighting against the spiritual attached you face on a regular basis. Spiritual storms are real and it’s something that children of God face daily and we will continue to face as long as we are walking with Christ.
I will be the first to admit, storms are not something that I particularly enjoy or welcome in my life. However, if we are always trying to avoid them, how will we ever experience the peace that surpasses all understanding that will guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus according to Philippians 4:7?
Some things in our lives are enviable. We will have to endure many challenges, but there is comfort in knowing that we don’t have to face them alone and that God will grant us His peace in the midst of them.
Prayer: Most Gracious Father, Thank You for comfort in Your word. There are times in my life that I am faced with what appears to be insurmountable challenges. Consistently fighting can be draining, but I thank You that I don’t have to fight these battles along in my own strength, but I can look to You and experience peace, in the midst of battle. Thank You, God that I do not walk in fear, but confidence, that You are always with me and strengthening me with every step that I take. It is in the mighty name of Jesus that I pray, Amen!
Lisa says
Amen. And amen.
