Focus Verse: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. John 14:15 (ESV)
Our love for Christ is exemplified through our obedience towards Him. We can’t say we love Him, yet we are never obedient to Him Word, we never heed His guidance and we never keep Him commandments.
If you are parents or involved in the lives of children in any way, if everything you spoke to them they refused, you would begin to question their genuine love and respect for you after a while.
Dr. Gary Chapman has a book called The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts, where he shares the 5 ways people give and receive love. Those being, 1) Words of Affirmation, 2) Acts of Service, 3) Receiving Gifts, 4) Quality Time and 5) Physical Touch. I have often heard, as it relates this topic, “God’s love language is obedience.”
God doesn’t give us commands or direction because He wants to be mean or He just has something to say. God’s commands come with protection, provision, and preparation among other things.
As believers in Christ, we have to know that God, doesn’t speak just to be heard, He speaks to be obeyed. And every act of obedience on our part, give God the opportunity to perform great and mighty things on our behalf.
So, how much do you love Him?
Prayer: Father God, Your love for me is immeasurable! Thank You for this reminder. So many times I have heard You speak in my life, giving me direction and guidance, and so many times I have ignored You, please forgive me. God, I love You. As I continue this journey with You, help me to remember that my love for You is shown through my obedience towards You. In the name of Jesus, Amen!
