What Does Your Light Say

8 Apr

Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourself. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?-unless indeed you failed to meet the test! 2 Corinthians 13:5

Earlier this week while I was driving through TX, I was blessed with the opportunity to witness this beautiful sunrise. As I was driving, one of the things I noticed is that I was able to see the light from the sun long before I was able to actually see the sun.

If follow me on Instagram, and you were able to check out my stories, I shared a video and some pictures of the beautiful colors that appeared, orange, pink, baby blue. Once again, these beautiful colors could be seen long before I actually saw the sun.

Then it hit me! This is the way others should experience the gifts God blesses us with. Others should be able to see all the beautiful manifestations of who God called us to be long before they know who is behind it! Our gifts should be manifested through our family, community and throughout the word! And the response after they’ve experienced our many gifts should be, “Oh, they are believers of Jesus Christ, I’m not surprised!”

I have a couple of questions for you. Do your gifts show up before you open your mouth and share that you’re a believer? Are people surprised to hear that you are a Christian? Take some time to reflect on your answers.

Prayer: Father, thank you for this reminder! I desire for my life to be a reflection of who you are. Help me to remember that the gifts that you have blessed me with should be manifested through the world so much so that others will respond with, “I’m not surprised they are believers of Jesus Christ.” In Jesus Name, Amen!

It’s Always Been There

9 Jan

And I will put my spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Ezekiel 26:27

While taking the trash out one foggy morning, I noticed something very interesting about the bushes lining the sidewalk in front of my house. They were filled with spider webs! I was a little concerned so I looked along the sidewalk to see if I saw any in my neighbor’s bushes as well, and I did. As I was walking back in the house, it hit me. There was not a sudden infestation of spiders in the neighborhood, thank you, Jesus. The weather had been misty and foggy for a few days and as a result, I was able to see something that I normally wouldn’t see otherwise. The spider webs have always been there.

Instantly the Holy Spirit started speaking to me. “Those aren’t new spider webs, you’re just able to see them because of the mist in the air. In that same way, there is nothing new that you need in order to fulfill my purpose for your life. Everything that you need is already inside of you. I put it there when I placed my Spirit in you. It’s in my anointing when it’s magnified.”

As we are embracing the new year, let this be a reminder that everything you need to fulfill God’s purpose in your life is already in you. When you are operating in His anointing, that’s when it’s magnified.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for reminding me that everything I need, you have already provided. Your Word reminds me that you provide all my needs according to your riches in Glory. It’s when I’m walking in your anointing that what’s already in me is magnified. Thank you, Father, for Your Spirit that is working in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

The Wall

7 Aug

Guest Writer: Jennifer A Jenkins

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Galatians 6:9 (nkjv)

Every once in a while God throws a wall up. It’s not a closed door or even a stop sign, it’s simply a wall that you are expected to somehow conquer in order to move forward in your quest to obtain the promise He has provided for you at the end of the journey. The thing about the wall is that it seems to be never-ending in length, so you cannot go around it, it’s planted in cement so you cannot go under it, and it’s solid as can be so you cannot go through it; well I guess you have to go over it. The only problem with going over it is that there are no footholds either. At this point, you want to side-eye Jesus and walk away right? Right. But you cannot do that because for some reason, a while ago, you told God that you would follow Him no matter the cost and so now you must make good on your word. You have to go over this wall and it’s going to take everything within you to do so and honestly despite your best efforts you still are not going to make it through on your own. You have to give up, give in, and trust in God in order to make it through.

Think about Moses as he approached Pharaoh in order to receive freedom for the Israelites from Egypt (read Exodus 5-11). Pharaoh was a wall and refused to let the Israelites go, even after several plagues. The craziest part of all is that God sent Moses in to Pharaoh and at the same time He made Pharaoh a wall that could not be overcome simply because Moses was talking. God wanted to know that Moses would be faithful in the pursuit of obtaining that which was set apart by God specifically for him. If Moses had given up simply because Pharaoh continued to say no, the people of Israel may not have been freed and the numerous miracles we saw happen as a result of Moses’ faithfulness would not have occurred.

There are miracles waiting to happen as a result of your faithfulness. Miracles that will only be unleashed because you continued to persevere despite the opposition you receive, the “no’s” people yell at you, the obstacles that threaten to stop you, and the never-ending hindrances that “magically” appear on your path. God has a plan for your life to effect change in the world around you. Yes, the wall is really tall, no you’re not an experienced climber, yes it’s probably going to hurt along the way, and no you do not have to do it all on your own. God is there, He is cheering you along the entire way, catching you when you fall, and helping you through the rougher patches. He’s not the only one watching you either. There is a whole host of Heavenly angels sitting back and watching you, cheering for you, hoping beyond hope that you will not give up because they know what is to come if you do not faint.

Walk in power, climb in might, serve with humility, and conquer that wall!

The So Love

24 Jul

girlinloveFocus Verse: For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His[One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16

I love you, more than you could ever know. Not just a regular love, but a “so love”. A greater love, a deeper love. I loved you before you were capable of being loved.  Accept My love. Receive My love. Don’t try to limit My love for you. My love has no limits.

Often times you confuse My love for you with that of a human’s love. You feel like I love you more when things are going “good”, and you’ve been doing “good”; following every rule. Then when life happens and things aren’t so “good” anymore, you feel like My love for you changes and I don’t love you as much. You may not say it with your words, but you say it in your actions. Thinking you have to make it up to Me, this couldn’t be farthest from the truth.

Don’t try to earn My love because honestly, you can’t. My love for you has nothing to do with what you do or how you behave, but everything to do with My commitment to My purpose. A purpose that was set forth before the foundation of the world, with you in mind. I desire for you to truly come to know and comprehend the width and length and height and depth of My love for you, see Ephesians 3:18.

Prayer: Good, Good Father, thank You that You so love me! Thank You for reminding me that Your love for me has been and will always remain the same. There is no way I can loss Your love or gain any more than I have right now. Father, as I go throughout this day, continue to show and remind me of Your unfailing, unconditionally love for me. It is in Your matchless son, Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!

Who’s Who?

19 Jul

nature-sky-sunset-manThe thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]. John 10:10 (AMP)

When you become a follower of Jesus Christ it is imperative that you learn His character, His ways and how He speaks. But as you begin to grow in Him and get closer to your calling, it becomes imperative that you learn the character of the Enemy as well, his ways and how he speaks. It will save you a lot of self-doubt, fear, questioning God and what He already said to you.

Character Traits of Christ vs the Enemy?

Christ:

  • Will enhance your life and those around you. John 10:10
  • Gives you peace even when things aren’t the best. Mark 4:39
  • Is patient. 2 Peter 3:9

The Enemy:

  • #1 goal is to destroy your life and those around you.
  • Causes anxiety.
  • Wants you to rush and be hasty.

Have you been going back and forth in your mind lately between two choices? Do you have an important decision to make and have been experiencing a bit of anxiety?

The Enemy can sound a lot like Christ at times. Don’t feel bad if you have to CONTINUALLY, pray God’s word to Him, “Lord You said…God I believe You…Father, I trust Your plan…” The Enemy will do everything he can to keep you from what God has planned for you, and to do through you.

Additional Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 14:33; John 10:27-28; Isaiah 26:3

Prayer: Lord, thank You for reminding me that I have to be mindful of the character traits of both you and the adversary. I know that he desires, above all else, for Your plan not to go forth. As I am growing closer in You, help me to keep my eyes on You and so I don’t fall for his lies, tricks and schemes. I only want to do Your will. It is in Your son, Jesus’ mighty name I pray. Amen.

It’s Not Always Easy

17 Jul

doerFocus Verse: And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them. But I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.” So the Israelites did this. Exodus 14:4 (NIV)

“Everything happened with ease, that’s how I knew it was from God.” I heard that statement this weekend. It made me stop and think, “Does that mean that things that are met with a little resistance aren’t from God?” It made me think of an area in my life that I have been dealing with for some time now.

Everything from God isn’t always met with ease. Somethings you have to work for and fight for. What may appear effortless for some, may not be that way for you. I often think, “God why is it that things that appear so easy for others, comes with a challenge for me?” Then God reminds me, “I know what you can handle. The things that I allow you to go through and experience, if others were faced with it, they would walk away. You gain wisdom from your experiences that help others.” Had it not been for me knowing that the resistance was all apart of the plan, I would have given up a long time ago.

The enemy, knows just as well, how the blessings from God for your life will impact The Kingdom. And he’s not happy about it. So he will do everything he can to try and trick you to stop working, to stop fighting, to give up on what you know is yours. He will even try to entice you with things that appears better and easier. Which is why Paul encourages us to put on the full armor of God, in Ephesians 6, so that we are not deceived by the devil’s tricks.

Understand today, that the resistance you are experiencing may very well be an indicator that it’s from God. Additionally, I’m so glad that when Jesus is met with my resistance, He doesn’t give up on me or walk away. But instead, He continually intercedes, to The Father, on my behalf,

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I don’t always understand what is going on. There are times that You allow me to experience pure ease in areas of my life and then other, I’m met with consistent resistance. Help me to see You in everything and not be ignorant to the devil’s schemes, according to 2 Corinthians 2:11. And I will forever give You the praise for whatever the outcome is. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Pursuing In The Presence of Fear

12 Jul

Focus Verse: Then Moses said to the Lord, “Please, Lord, I am not a man of words (eloquent, fluent), neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and tongue.” Exodus 4:10 (AMP)

Last week, we talked about how we have to be willing to pursue what’s uncomfortable when it pertains to our purpose. Today we will look at Moses and discuss the state of being ready as it pertains to our purpose.

In Exodus 3, we see that God appeared to Moses to inform him that he had been chosen to bring the children of Israel out of Egypt. (vs 10) Understandably, Moses had some fear and doubts and he began to question God. “Who am I that I should approach Pharaoh?” (vs. 11) “Who should I say sent me? (vs. 13) “What if they don’t believe me? (Exodus 4:1)

Every excuse Moses gave God was a reflection of his own ability and had absolutely nothing to do with God, His ability, and what His word says about Him. (see Exodus 3:14) For every concern Moses had for God, God had a response for Moses. “Certainly, I will be with you.”(Exodus 3:12) “I am who I am. (Exodus 3:14) Read Exodus 4:1-13 for God’s response to Moses’ fear of speaking and “what if they don’t believe me.”

It’s easy for us to look at others to analyze and point out their mistakes, but how many times have you, like Moses, told God you weren’t ready? “God this is too much for me to handle. I’m not where I want to be yet. What if it doesn’t work out? What if they don’t believe me? I’m comfortable where I am right now. How am I going to pay for that? That’s going to be/ is way too hard. What if I don’t succeed?”

The state of being ready does not automatically negate or cancel out the presence of fear. So many people have tricked THEMSELVES into believing they aren’t ready simply because fear is present. It is highly possible and extremely normal to pursue purpose in the presence of fear.

God knew everything that Moses would be up against when delivering His people and He still felt confident that he could get the job done. In that same manner, God knows everything about you and He still has confidence that you can be everything He called and created you to be. Not because of who you are, but because who He is. I encourage you to make a vow today, that you will pursue your purpose, even in the presence of fear.

Prayer: Glory to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords! You are the Everlasting God! Thank You for that reminder that just because fear is present, doesn’t mean I am not ready. Father forgive me, I have ignored Your calling many times. I know there are places and people that You have called me to and I have totally ignored them. As I vow today to pursue my purpose in the presence of fear, help me to remember to not look at my inability, but to keep my eyes on You and Your ability. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!

1 Comes Before 2: Do The 1, The 2 Will Come!

Bible Reading: 2 Kings 4:1-7

Focus Scriptures: So she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another. Soon every container was full to the brim! “Bring me another jar,” she said to one of her sons.“There aren’t any more!” he told her. And then the olive oil stopped flowing. 2 Kings 4:5-6  (NLT)

I was talking to one of my college friends one evening about life and how it has played out so far. One of the things she mentioned was, if she knew then, what she knows now, there are things she would have changed and pursued differently. She pursued a degree, that now she realizes, she is unhappy with, doing things that leave her feeling unfulfilled. When asked what she desired to do, without hesitation she started talking about what she knew God had called her to do, but she was still praying to see exactly how He wanted her to do it.

Why do we sit on things God has instructed us to do, “praying and seeking guidance” from Him, secretly expecting Him to unfold His entire plan for our lives?

Sometimes God expects us to step out on faith without seeing the entire picture. He will give us a tiny glimpse and then expect us to move, without fully knowing what will come next or how it will work out.

Because of the unknown, some of you have yet to make the first step of faith, but you are constantly going to God asking Him to show you and reveal to you His plan. Let me save you, and the people who are connected to you some time, STOP IT! God is not going to give you Step 2 when you have yet to do Step 1. God delights in order and doing things out of order just isn’t who He is.

For example, in 2 Kings 4, Elisha has an encounter with a widow, who was down to her last and planned on using the little she had left to prepare a meal for herself and her sons and then die. In verses 3-4, Elisha instructed her to go and collect all the jars she could and fill them up with the oil she had. She MOVED in verse 5 and did what she was instructed and we see that the power of God moved with her. She was able to fill up EVERY jar she had. Step 1: complete. After she had filled all the jars and the oil ceased flowing, in verse 7, we see she went back to Elisha and asked “what was next”, and then he was able to instruct her to Step 2.

What has God shown you, but you haven’t moved, because you are unsure of how it will work out, or you can’t see the full plan? Just a bit of advice, do Step 1 and Step 2 will come!

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for opening my eyes to see things clearly. Thank you for helping me to realize you are a God who delights in order. Forgive me for not being obedient the first time you spoke to me, and I thank You that You love me enough to allow me the opportunity to get it right. Now Father, give me the courage to step out on faith and know confidently that You will direct my every step. I thank You in advance for what you are going to do, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Think On These Things

3 Jul

thinkFocus Verse: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8

I recently had to ask God for forgiveness for worshipping my problems. How do I know I was worshipping my problems? Because that’s what I ALLOWED to consume my mind, more then Christ. Can you relate?

Similarly, when I’m not feeling well, often times I have to question what I’ve been focusing on. Have you ever been emotionally “down” for want you thought was no reason at all? You just weren’t feeling well but couldn’t quite put your finger on why?

We can’t allow our minds to roam freely and entertain whatever thoughts enter. It is important that we discipline ourselves and begin to think about what we’re thinking about. It’s impossible for us to have our mind on things above, Colossians 3:2, if we are not mindful of what’s on our mind.

When we have allowed our thoughts to aimlessly wonder and ponder everything that comes to mind, initially being mindful of our thoughts can be difficult. However, it doesn’t have to remain that way.  Here are 3 simple steps to create a practice of thinking about what you are thinking about.

  • Pray.

It may sound cliche, but honestly this is the only way to experience success in this area. Pray and ask God to reveal to you when your thoughts don’t line up with His so you have the opportunity to change them to thoughts that do. Philippians 2:5

  • Consistently evaluate.

Schedule several random times throughout the day where you stop and think about what’s on your mind. This will be the only way you will find out what type of thoughts you frequently entertain.

  • Choose to change.

Researches have said the mind thinks 60K- 80K thoughts a day. That’s 2,500- 3,300 thoughts per hour! With that many thoughts per hour, it’s impossible to entertain all of them. However, a nice amount of them do get deposited into our mental bank and sometimes stay longer than we realize. When you recognize your thoughts don’t line up with the word of God, you have to choose to change them to God honoring thoughts.

Will you take these steps today in order to start thinking about what you are thinking about?

Prayer: All knowing God, thank You for providing in Your word what I should consistently be thinking about. I have regularly entertained thoughts that where not consistent with Your word, please forgive me. Your word instructs me to cast down every thought that exhaust itself against the knowledge of You. I can only do that with Your help. I vow on today that I will begin to be mindful of what’s on my mind. In Jesus’ name Amen.

When We Say “No” But God Says Otherwise

26 Jun

Focus Verse: Then he said, “About this time next year you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!” 2 Kings 4:16 (NKJV)

Have you ever been in a place where God consistently confirmed His plan for your life but, because you had grown tired of waiting, at times you felt like saying, “you know what God, nevermind, it’s fine”? Not because you didn’t believe, but because you were just tired. Tired of waiting. Tired of believing. Tired of consistently seeing things that were different from what God said. Well be encouraged because you are in good company, let’s look at the story of the Shunammite woman.

2 Kings 4 tells us the story of the Shunammite woman. A woman much like many of us trusting and believing God but at one point she got weary. As we look at 2 Kings 4, we see that the Shunammite woman was truly a disciple of God and was concerned about building God’s kingdom by serving the man of God, Elisha.

At one point it was her heart’s desire to have a child but after waiting and believing for so long, she had retired that desire. But God said otherwise.

After Elisha recognized that the Shunammite woman had done so much to help them, he wanted to do something for her. Gehazi told Elisha that she has never had a child, so Gehazi wanted to bless her.

But the response that Elisha got when he told her that she would have a child was surprising. “No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!”

But the following verse we see God fulfilled the promise Elisha gave and the woman conceived, see verse 17.

It’s interesting that two verse after the promise was given we see that the Shunammite woman conceived.

How many times have you told God “no”? How many times have you decided that you were moving on with your life?

When God says “yes’, your “no” doesn’t matter.

Prayer: Father, thank You so much for reminding me that Your promises do come to pass. No matter how tired I get or how much I want to move on. Forgive me for contradicting what You said. God, I trust everything You have said and as I walk in Your promise, help me to keep my eyes on You. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.
