Top 5 Fragrances For Traveling

28 Mar

Daylight savings time has come which officially means you tired boss the days are getting longer and the temperatures are getting warmer. Which further means we gotta be mindful of what we’re smelling like while we’re traipsing through these airports and getting on and off these aircraft. Y’all know how I feel about scents and don’t nobody want to sit next to you smelling like you helped Jesus carry the cross up to Calvary *Cues Calvary by Richard Smallwood and Victory*

In this post, I will be sharing the best fragrances to wear while traveling. These results are based on two factors, freshness and staying power. When you’re on a long haul flight, smelling clean for an extended period of time is essential.

Fellas, I didn’t forget about ya’ll. I like fragrances, PERIODT! If it smells good, I’m wearing it no matter who it’s intended for and I’ll tell you about it. too! #allfragrancesmatter

Colonia Pura by Acqua Di Parma

This is one of my favorite colognes to travel in at the moment. I purchased it in a duty-free shop in Italy while looking for something fresh and new!

Colonia Pura opens with intense fresh notes of sunny bergamot, juicy orange, and delicate petit grain. It seduces with a heart sublimated by a harmonious combination of spicy notes of coriander, combined with the sensual floral accent of jasmine sambac absolute and narcissus absolute. Finally, it embraces with a refined duo of woody notes: cedarwood and patchouli, while white musk notes close the composition.

Colonia Pura is a luminous, fresh and transparent fragrance. It embodies the contemporary side of Italian lifestyle.

Chloe by Chloe

#classic

This one you’re probably familiar with if you’ve spent any amount of time exploring fragrances. It’s definitely an oldie but goodie!

Recently, while I was wearing this, someone told me, “You smell like you just took a bath!”

Bathing is essential.

Chloe begins with a combination of floral powdery notes, hints of peony, lychee and springtime freesia. The airy, flirtatious head notes drift away to reveal the richer and more sensational side of the rose. The distinctive character of this unique rose is accompanied by magnolia and lily of the valley, as well as subtle intimations of warm amber and elegant cedarwood.

Well, come on Lily of the valley, Joy!

Amazing Grace by Philosophy

Oh, how sweet the sound!

Amazing Grace is Philosophy’s best selling fragrance. It’s amazingly clean and beautifully feminine. The fragrance features notes of welcoming bergamot to greet the senses, irresistibly soft, clean muguet blossoms, and lasting musk with its classic beauty.

Love In White by Creed

This one gives all types of FLOUS vibes. (And by FLOUS, I mean Michelle Obama. Who else would I be referring to?) It has been reported that Michelle Obama’s signature fragrance is Love in White by Creed.

Whenever I’m walking through the airport wearing Love In White, I’m complimented on how “pretty” I smell.

Love in White is a floral oriental scent that features top notes of orange zest then blends into rice iris white jasmine magnolia daffodils and rose. The scent finishes off with sandalwood vanilla and ambergris.

I know, that sounds like a lot. But seriously, it’s Michelle approved.

Virgin Island Water by Creed

This is another favorite. It’s currently on my sugadaddy wish list because, well, $395. But please believe, every time I got to Nordstrom I get a $free sample. #fakeittilyoumakeit

Virgin Island Water opens with a citrusy cocktail of white bergamot, Jamaican lime, and Sicilian mandarin. The citruses are accompanied by a note of copra, the white inner flesh of a coconut. The heart includes intensive Indian jasmine, sweet hibiscus, exotic ylang-ylang, and cold, spicy ginger. The base of the composition includes sugar cane, musk, and white rum.

Talk about walking around smelling like the beach!

Alright, guys and gals, that’s all for now. But I’m interested to know, what are some of your favorite fragrances to travel in? Drop your recommendations below.

Thanks for reading, and as always, pray fervently and travel often!

Summer Reading: Marriage God’s Way-

16 Jul

Book Review

Summa, summa, summa time!

And nothing says summer quite like a cute beach and a good book!

A lot of us are preparing for summer vacation and looking for good reading materials to take along with us. If you fall into that category, then look no further because I have a book for you. I was recently blessed by Scott LaPierre over at scottlapierre.org with his book, Marriage God’s Way. Last year, Scott shared with us a Breakfast Bite in the form of a bible study entitled, God Commanded Adam, But The Devil Tempted Eve. Where he discusses the consequence of the fall for husbands and wives.

Now, I know, I know, I’m not married…

YET!

However, I believe preparation is so important when it comes to perfecting the life I desire to live. So if marriage is something that I desire, the only way I know to do that successfully is to prepare for it.

Marriage God’s Way is definitely a book that will aid in that preparation process.

As a single person desiring to be married one day, sometimes we can get caught up in the fantasy of what we THINK marriage is. But in his book, Scott give us biblical truths of what marriage really is and how to have a healthy Christ- centered outlook on it.

Marriage God’s Way is broken up into 8 Parts:

  • Part I: Recognizing That…
  • Part II: Genesis 1-3 Creation of Marriage and the Fall
  • Part III: Understanding Love
  • Part IV: Ephesians 5:25-31 A Husband’s Call to Agape and A Wife’s Call to Respect
  • Part V: Understanding Submission
  • Part VI: 1 Peter 3:1-7 A Wife’s Beauty and a Husband’s Treatment
  • Part VII: 1 Corinthians 7: 1-6 A Biblical View of Intimacy
  • Part VIII: Matthew 7:24-27 A Strong Foundation

Understanding Submission, Part V, is the part of the book that I enjoyed the most. Probably because this is an area that I know I can start practicing now. In this section, Scott starts by giving us biblical examples of submission outside of marriage.

  • 1 Peter 2:13-17 commands believers to submit to government
  • 1 Peter 2:18-25 commands slaves to submit to their masters: in our society, this would translate as employees’ submitting to employers
  • 1 Peter 5:5 commands congregations to submit to their elders.

Whether you are married or not, each one of the above examples is an area that we are commanded to submit as believers in Christ.

Additionally, I thoroughly enjoyed when Scott emphasized the importance of how we submit. Submitting in itself isn’t done right unless we submit with the right attitude. God cares just as much about what we do as He does, how we do it.

During this section, I was convicted to do some self-reflecting.

How have I been submitted to the authorities in my life?

What has my attitude been like in these times?

Submission, often times, is a difficult topic for some, especially in the area of marriage. Considering someone like myself, who has been single for some time now, I am often visited by the thoughts of how I would respond to certain situations if I were married desiring to honor God in the area of submission.

Let’s be honest, submission is not something that can be none existent today and easily practiced tomorrow. So it’s foolish to believe that when one gets married it is a practice that will be easily adopted. Scott has done an amazing job of explaining how the practice of submission can be implemented much easier if both the husband and the wife have developed a lifestyle of submission before entering into the union of marriage.

If you desire to be married one day, I highly recommend Marriage God’s Way. It will not only help you embrace submission now, but it will also equip you with the tools needed to have a healthy, joyful, Christ- centered relationship!

175 Lit Worship Songs Sure To Take You In

15 Feb

Not too long ago, I created a Gratitude Workbook and Resource Guide to help with initiating a heart of gratitude in your daily life. It is so easy to get stuck in the “woe is me, I don’t have…, so my life is awful” rut. In 2016, after making a conscience effort to incorporate gratitude into my daily life and looking for opportunities to be thankful, my perspective changed. I kept a daily journal to record everything and recognized a significate change in how I viewed life in general. Eventually, I found myself to be more joyful and didn’t compare myself to others as often. Because, let’s be honest, we all struggle with this sometimes. Occasionally, I would catch myself saying “Thank You, Lord” out loud for random things. Unquestionably, this started by having a spirit of gratitude and a heart for worship.

This resource guide is filled with verses, questions to consider, and worship songs to help with your daily gratitude exercises.

Here’s your personal copy of the

Graditute Workbook and Resource Guide

After the release of the guide, there were so many comments about the song selection that was included, I decided to comprise a list of worship songs that are sure to take you in.  I know we all have our preferences in music genres. Some enjoy lit gospel songs, while others, lit Christian songs, and for the millennials, hip hop church songs. I personally listen to all types, and I have included both Gospel and Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) in this post.

Note: These songs are not in any order of LITness, only grouped together by the artist.

Washington Auto Show & My New Auto Infatuation

31 Jan

The temperature in the DMV area this weekend is predicted to be COLD again, just like last weekend. But guess what, you don’t have to stay in the house because of that. Stuck listening to the consistent complaining of those chur’n talkin’ about “they’re boooooored.” Or going back and forth between the bed and the couch because you’re bored out of your mind since no one else wants to go anywhere due to the weather.

The Washington Auto Show is a huge event for those located in DC, Maryland and Virginia, held this year from February 27th- March 5th. Each year, car manufacturers come together in one location, the Walter E Washington Convention Center, to showcase their latest model cars as well as exhibits and entertainment.

I had a privilege of enjoying the auto show on last Thursday. I hung out with a few other bloggers and influences as we learned about what to expect in the future from the industry product wise, as well as, the direction the industry is going, as a whole, towards product development. We also got to play in some pretty sweet rides!

One of my favorites was the Genesis by Hyundai. Now, this wasn’t my first introduction to the Genesis. My first introduction to the Genesis was when I purchased a Hyundai Sonata 5 years ago. However, Genesis has done a LOT to develop their brand and product.

For starters, Genesis is now a stand-alone luxury brand, made by Hyundai. Sort of like Honda makes Acura and Toyota makes Lexus. Genesis will now compete globally with the likes of the Infiniti, Lexus, and Acura. Now that is HUGE, kudos to Hyundai and Genesis!

During the Opening Ceremony, Dinesh Paliwal, CEO of Harman International Industries and part founder of harman/kardon, a home and car audio equipment manufacturer, stated that one of the goals of the automotive industry is to humanize automobiles, personalizing the experience to the user. With their rain sensing wipers with auto sensing defogger windshield, wireless cell phone charging, and Heads Up Display (HUD), Genesis really took that concept and ran in the right direction with it.

Lastly, one of the reasons I purchased my first Hyundai was because of their AMAZING warranty, 10- year/ 100,000-mile Powertrain Warranty and 5- year/ 60,000-mile New Vehicle Warranty. No one else in the game is doing this right now except for Kia which is essentially the same company, Hyundai-Kia Motor Company. This amazing warranty is also provided for Genesis purchases as well.

As you can tell, the engineer in me had an AWESOME time learning about Genesis, as well as, all the vehicles on display this year, so much so that I went back for a 2nd round two days later. If you are looking for something to do in the DMV area this weekend I would highly recommend it, even if you aren’t in the market to purchase a new vehicle right now, dream building is always appropriate. I hear that there is also a $2 off Groupon offered for the auto show as well, make certain your jump on that as well! If you are not local to the DMV area but still interested in attending, I would encourage you to check and see when the show is coming to your local area.

So let me hear it, have you ever attended an auto show? How did you enjoy it? What automobile are you eyeing right now?

A special thank you to She Buys Cars for this amazing opportunity. I was compensated for this post, however, all thought and options are my own.

Mentorship In The Community: BWT Edition

31 Jan

Breakfast With Tiffani Spotlight: Shena Smith and Daughters United In Christ, Inc.

As we prepare to say goodbye to January 2017 and National Mentoring Month, I would be remiss if I didn’t spotlight this organization and it’s amazing leader for her work in the community.

Breakfast With Tiffani (BWT): Could you tell me a little bit about yourself and Daughters United In Christ, Inc. what is it, why did you start it, etc?

Shena: Currently, I teach AP English at Bowie High School in Bowie, MD, where I have taught for the past 11 years. I have coordinated several programs and clubs within my school that provided academic, social, emotional, and social support to our students. Additionally, I was a lead writer for the first AP Language and Composition curriculum crafted for PG County and contributed to other grade level English curriculums as well.

In the midst of all this, one could say I also serve my students as a counselor, coach, and confidant in the midst of grading papers and planning lessons. Hence, why teachers are indeed underpaid lol.

When I turned 30 in 2014, I began to experience an even heavier burden for teens that I believed could no longer be addressed in the confines of a classroom. After praying on this matter for a few days, God confirmed through my quiet time, students, and wise counsel that all my engaging, coaching, and empowering of my students had to break out the classroom. I could not address the social and emotional unrest my students experienced in a class period, let alone my lunch period as the masses would come daily to speak and inquire on their fears, doubts, and pursuit of truth.

I then began to research how to start an organization to further meet the needs of our rising teens since Prince George County underwent huge budget cuts that removed programs and classes for our students to tap into their strengths and provide outlets for their talents. This – along with my passion for connecting youth to Christ and living a life based on principle – birthed the vision and non-profit organization Daughters United in Christ, Inc.

This non-profit seeks to empower teen girls to be intentional today by activating and attaining an impactful legacy by resolving social, emotional, and spiritual unrest through coaching, conferences, and biblical connectivity. We currently meet twice a month for workshops, projects, and outreach to instill views led by principle.

BWT: Why do you think mentoring is important?

Shena: I believe mentoring is paramount because it keeps people humble when done properly – whether you are a mentor or a mentee. On the side of a mentor, it is difficult to teach something you do not practice yourself. In a position of leading or advising anyone, your life and actions have to speak and align with what you say; therefore, it is a humbling reminder to be true to what you preach and that your actions ultimately reflect your views and beliefs – whether helpful or harmful.

On the side of a mentee, it takes humility to ask for help and admit you do not have all the answers getting from point A to point B. Culturally speaking, some believe independence is contingent upon their ability to do things solely on their own and the less you have to rely on people, the better off you are. I find this to be detrimental to one’s success and overall growth because God created us to be in relationship with one another; to yield to one another; to lean on one another out of reverence for Christ. Therefore, we miss Christ when we don’t operate in the freedom and gains of submission.

BWT: What lessons have your learned from mentoring, how has it made you a better person?

Shena: I have learned the beauty of authenticity through mentoring. I remember when a student first looked to me and called me her mentor. I was an amalgamation of anxiety, gratitude, and fear. When the young lady explained to me why she wanted my mentorship, it was not because I had it all together or because I did everything right. It was actually the opposite: she chose me because” I did not pretend to know it all and that I relentlessly pursued to do what’s right.” Thereby, it seems that mentoring is not only about teaching your audience what to do or what not to do, or how to meet success, but also reflecting genuineness of who you are and genuineness of how you arrived to where you stand today. Mentoring has shaped my character primarily because through it, I am answering the call to action Titus speaks of in Titus 2:3-5 regarding “older women” teaching and advising the young. As women take on this role rightfully and reverentially, we get to bring honor to God’s word!! That amazes me. Through my conduct, my beliefs, my faith – I get to make Christ real, I mean really real to another young lady. Overall, I share with my girls often how I didn’t experience mentors or counsel as a teen and I wished that I had someone who could have poured into me. Each girl I encounter, I imagine if she too is that same young girl who needed what I needed, but had no one answering the call. “The harvest is plenty, but the laborers are few” and I choose to be one of the “few.”

BWT: Do you have mentors of your own? If so, how do you select them?

Shena: One of my mentors shared with me that it is helpful to have a mentor for various aspects of your life that you desire to grow in. It may be unrealistic for one person to have all that you need. Presently, I have a spiritual mentor, business mentor, and a mentor couple for marriage. In choosing my mentors, I first prayed to seek God’s counsel on what I needed so that when I met people, I would already be in tune with those needs. Sometimes we can pass right by the very person or things we need because we did not get clarity. Once I could communicate what I needed, I was more aware of those people when I was confronted by them or the resources when they were offered.

Overall, I chose my mentors based off the area I needed to grow in, and who is already doing what I desire to do to, which affirms and feeds my faith that it is possible – whatever it is.

National Mentoring Month: BWT Edition

18 Jan

Breakfast BFF Spotlight: Carl Fortune and The Fortune Foundation

January is National Mentoring Month and I am super excited about spotlighting one of my very own Breakfast BFFs for his work in the community and his commitment to mentoring.

Breakfast With Tiffani (BWT): Could you tell me a little bit about yourself and The Fortune Foundation, what is, why did you start it, etc?

Carl: I’ve always had a passion for youth and for serving my community, which is exactly why I started The Fortune Foundation four years ago. Our organization is dedicated to enriching the lives of young people by offering scholarships, leadership development, mentoring, and college preparation to students in the metro D.C. area. To date, we have given more than $10, 000 in scholarship funds and my hope is to continue to impact our youth through the development of community programs and partnerships.

BWT: Why do you think mentoring is important?

Carl: Mentoring is important for two reasons. First, it allows you to share your time, knowledge, and resources to positively impact the life of another person by guiding them along the way. And secondly, it gives your mentee the opportunity to not only learn from you, but to also feel supported and encouraged as they navigate through their journey. I think it’s extremely important that as we climb the “ladder of life” we always reach back and pull up as many people as we can. That’s the true essence of mentorship.

BWT: What lessons have your learned from mentoring, how has it made you a better person?

Carl: Mentoring other people always requires a bit of self-reflection. You definitely have to be willing to share your story…both the good and the bad. I’ve learned that it’s inevitable that you will come across people who share similar goals and aspirations as you, so why not help them along the way and possibly save them from some of the mistakes you made? For me, mentoring has taught me to be a better listener and communicator. I’ve learned how to truly understand where my mentees are coming from so that I can provide the best support and guidance possible.

BWT: Do you have mentors of your own? If so, how do you select them?

Carl: I do have mentors of my own. It’s important for me to know where I’m going and life and to connect with the people who can give me the guidance and wisdom to get there.

I am so grateful to Carl and the Fortune Foundation. If you too, like Carl, have a passion for empowering the youth and serving the community through mentorship, please consider making a donation to the Fortune Foundation by clicking the following link. I want to make a difference!

Let me hear it, is mentorship important to you as well?

Hashtag Life Goals

29 Dec

Setting goals is so important. I have always known the importance of having goals, but it was not until recently that I actually recognized the benefit of actually writing them down in order to achieve true success. I mean, I’ve just never been a “goal writer- downer” type chick. Don’t you judge me; everyone can’t be as great as you!

But about a year or two ago, I had a change of heart and decided that I DID want to be great like you, so I actually started a life goal list. This was inspired by the book, The Circle Maker: Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears, by Mark Batterson. In the book, Mark had a chapter where he talked about his life goals and those of people he is connected to and how consistently “praying circles” around those goals affected how they were accomplished.

For those of you, that may be like me and have no clue what a life goal list is, allow me to help you. A life goal list is a list of goals that you want to accomplish in your life. I know, genius right!  These goals vary in rage from career goals to personal goal. From specific to vage. I was intreged because I do want to acccoplish some DOPE stuff in my life, so I decided to explore this life goal list and become a “goal writer- downer”.

Honestly, judging from the evaluation of my list, writing my goals down is one of the smartest things I could have ever done to be effective in actually accomplishing them. Some of these self- help experts really be knowing what they be talking about! (Horrible English, I know)

Below are the benefits I found to writing my goals down:

  1. It forced me to evaluate what was really important in my life.
  2. I am consistenly reminded of what I desire to accomplish, when I post them in a place I frequant. (I revisit my list on the 15th of every month)
  3. If it did make the list, after evaluation of importance, I am then held accountable by myself and those that I have communicated it to. (I hate when I don’t do something I say I’m going to do. But if I keep all my goals in my mind, majority of the time, I’m not going to say anything about it and if I don’t say it, does it HAVE to be accomplished?)

Below is my Life Goal list so far. As expected, as life goes on, thing get checked off and new things get added.
