Forgive- (v) stop feeling angry or resentful toward (someone) for an offense, flaw, or mistake.
On June 17th, 4 years ago, America stood still as we all focused our attention on Emmanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, SC., the oldest African American Church in the Southern United States. The breaking news across the country was that a White Supremacist had joined a small group engaging in Bible study. The young man sat through the entire study and once the group bowed their heads to pray he opened fire, brutally executing 9 of the individuals present.
Emmanuel, produced by Steph Curry and Viola Davis, is a documentary sharing the untold stories of victims and survivors of the 2005 church shooting. Despite the terrible act of hate from the shooter, all throughout the documentary, individuals share expressions of forgiveness to him. In a society where we are encouraged to hate those who hate us, forgiveness in it’s purest form is exemplified.
Emmanuel is in theaters for only a couple days this week. Click here to find a theater near you to experience this outstanding act of forgiveness.
