From The Inside Out

3 Apr

Focus Verse: Dear friend, I’m praying that all is well with you and that you enjoy good health in the same way that you prosper spiritually. 3 John 2 (CEB)

I had just come back from being on travel for three weeks. As I walked through the door, I began to check and make certain everything was cool and just the way I left it. I praise God that it was, however, there was one thing that I noticed. I left a green pepper out that I had just purchased a few days before I left and it had begun to go bad. Have you ever paid attention to produce that goes bad?

The process of how produce begins to spoil suddenly became intriguing. I noticed that the mold appeared to be growing from the inside of the pepper. However, not every surface of the pepper appeared to be bad. If I turned it around to inspect the other side of the pepper, it looked totally fine, there was no appearance of mold.

If we are not careful, our spiritual life can resemble this pepper. On the inside, we are rotting and spoiling, but on the outside, the surface that others see still looks shiny as if there is nothing wrong. How do we guard ourselves against this? We have to make certain that we are consistently inspecting ourselves, as well as, be in relationship with others that are willing to hold us accountable and do some inspecting for us also. We have to be willing to ask ourselves and answer some of the hard and sometimes embarrassing questions. We were never intended to take this Christian journey alone. The Bible instructs us in Galatians 6:2 that we are to bear each other’s burdens. This simply means that we are to sympathize with and assist one another with any weaknesses, grievances or trials we may endure.

Are you in a relationship with someone that will hold you accountable and is willing to do some inspecting when necessary? Are you someone else’s accountability, asking the tough questions and bearing their burden? If “yes” is not the answer to both of these questions, I challenge you today to seek God for guidance in this area of your life.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You so much for caring about my soul. I know that I am not always in the best place spirituality. I have trials and weakness that I struggle with daily. Thank You for reminding me that I don’t have to bear those trials and weaknesses alone. You created me to be in realtionship with other believers that will hold me accountable and bear my burdens, according to Your word. Help me, Father, to identify those people in my life, as well as, those people I can do the same for. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen!
