Keep Your Head To The Sky

1 Feb

Focus verse:  I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Psalm 32:8

“Keep your head to the sky.” Those are lyrics to a popular Earth, Wind and Fire song written in the early 70’s. However, it wasn’t until recently that I was reminded how motivating and inspiring those lyrics are. You see, last year I struggled a lot with where I wanted to be vs. where I actually am. Every person of purpose has a goal and vision for their life. We plan and oftentimes expect what we plan to play out the way we intended. But if your life is anything like mine, that rarely ever happens. And quite honestly, I felt some type of way about it.

Because of this, I started to look around and see what I could do to improve my situation and set my plan in motion. I started focusing on things that honestly didn’t matter, hoping that I would get some results that I was pleased with. “Maybe if I changed careers”, I thought, “my life will start looking up. Should I go back to school? Or maybe my husband isn’t here. Maybe I need to move back home or to another area for him to find me.”

A few months later, I was about to be living out my dream, or so I thought! I did get a new job, and I’m grateful for the experience, but with that new job, I soon found out, it didn’t instantly propel me to where I wanted to be in life like I had imagined.

But where did I go wrong? What happened during my journey of going from where I am to where I want to be?

I later realized the answer is, I lost focus.

My attention was so focused on looking around, that I stopped looking up. I looked around at the people around me, those on social media, everywhere.

I was looking around because I had started to get frustrated with what my life STILL looked like. Not realizing I was exactly where God wanted me to be. I was soon reminded that the only way we will get complete and total fulfillment, even if there are some desires of ours that haven’t come to fruition yet, is to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.

Our focus verse reminds us that God will instruct us with His eye. But the only way that can happen is if we keep our eyes focused on His eyes. We all experience frustration, and when we do, we have to remember that God will keep us in perfect peace when we are focused on Him, Isaiah 26:3. That He has everything under control, Psalm 46:10. We have to remember that God’s ways are not our ways and He has a plan for us, Isaiah 55:8-9. A plan to prosper us and give us a future and a hope, Jeremiah 29:11. All we have to do is continue to look toward the hills, where our help comes from, Psalm 121.

The only way we will get complete and total fulfillment, even if there are some desires of ours that haven’t come to fruition yet, is to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Click To Tweet

Prayer: Lord I thank you that my heart is confident in You. Thank You for reminding me that I don’t have to look around or anywhere else but up to You. Forgive me, Father, for allowing my frustrations to fuel my focus. Help me to remember to keep my head to the sky, completely focused on You, In Jesus name, Amen!

The Way My Expectation Is Set Up

20 Jan

I’m declaring 2017 to be the year of Godly expectation. Have you ever heard the statement, “It will happen when you least expect it.” But my question to this statement is Will it and what does that even mean?

In this Fun Lunch Friday, we are talking about the proper way to expect in God.

Walk Into Your Promise

19 Jan

Bible Reading: Joshua 1:1-9

What promise has God giving you for 2017? Is it the promise of a new beginning? Restoration? Maybe it’s the promise of promotion? Or maybe it’s not a promise specifically for 2017, but God has spoken something over your life that has yet to manifest.

Whenever God gives us a promise, there is always an action required on our part. God said to Joshua, “Moses, My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I HAVE given you, as I said to Moses.” Joshua 1:2-3 (NKJV)

God had already given the promise to Joshua and the children of Israel but their possession was contingent upon their obedience. A promise from God will always require you to do something. In this case, Joshua had to walk. Every place he walked, he would possess.

Are you forfeiting things God has for you because you simply won’t walk?

Your blessing is in your obedience.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for this revelation. I desire everything that You have already prepared for me. I understand that my possession is contingent upon my obedience. Help me to adopt the spirit of Joshua, and be obedient immediately. I want to do my part, so Your promise can prevail. It is in Your son, Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!

Sacrifice The Promise

18 Apr

Bible Reading: Genesis 22:1-14

Focus Verse: Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” Genesis 22:2

God: “Release your grasp”

Me: “But God, You said…”

God: “Release your grasp”

Me (ANGRY): Why would you show me a promise and then tell me to release it… I’m tired…Tired of waiting… I never asked for this… Everything You instructed me to do, I did… I trusted You…

This was a conversation between God and myself one evening while watching a sermon online. Instantly, tears began to fall from my eyes. I was devastated.

Back in 2013, God had revealed to me one of His promises for my life, and since then, the promise has been confirmed, through His word, multiple dreams I had, and other people. After going back and forth in my mind for a while, pondering if indeed the promise would come, I finally pushed my fears and doubts out, received the promise and was ready to walk into it! And then this happened…

What do you do when the very thing that God promised you, He turns around and requests you to sacrifice? God has so many amazing blessings and promises that He desires to release to His people. But like Abraham, He desires to see where your heart is first. Before He releases the promise, He has to know that you love Him, the promise giver, more than you love the promise.

Often times, as Christians, we can make idols out of God’s promises. The promise of a new home, a successful business or career, a family, starting a new ministry; all of those things are nice, but when we place them above God, we pervert them, and begin to worship things that were never designed to be worshipped.

Has God been calling you to a posture of surrender? Have you created idols out of some of His promises? Has He shown you a promise and now requesting you to surrender it back to Him?

Prayer: Father, thank you for speaking directly to my heart. I love you and I never want to place anything above You, even the promises that You show me. Give me the courage to surrender everything to You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
