Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Matthew 28:19-20
As we approach Christmas, the day that we commemorate the birth of our savior Jesus Christ, I raise the question, what is your gift to the King? How are you using it accomplish The Creat Commission as pointed out in Matthew 28:19-20?
God has given each and every one of us gifts, special gifts that are unique and specific. And He gave us these gifts so that they may be used to aid in building Him Kingdom.
We can learn a lesson from the popular Christmas song, Little Drummer Boy, although this song did not come directly from the bible, it is very popular during this time of year and we can all consider the message and apply it to our lives as it pertains to the gifts God gave us to glorify Him.
The song opens up with a story of a little poor drummer boy that was welcomed to visit Baby Jesus after He was born. The little drummer boy realized that he didn’t have fine gifts and jewels to present The King, so he inquired about using his gift to play the drums, giving back to God what He initially gave him. The song closes with Baby Jesus showing His approval of the little boy by smiling.
We all are much like the little drummer boy, none of us have gifts that are worthy of The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, no amount of money, jewels, or all the luxuries in the world is fit for Our King. But the unique gifts that God gave us, He intends for us to use for His glory, to bless Him name and advance His Kingdom.
So I ask today, as we prepare to close out 2016 and move into 2017, what is your gift for The King and how are you using it to teach others who He is?
Prayer: Father, thank You so much for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who You gave selflessly for my sins. Thank You for the unique gifts You gave me to help spread Your Gospel and tell everyone I come in contact with about who You are. I must confess, I have not always used your gifts to tell others about You, please forgive me. Father, help me to be mindful of The Great Commission and the gifts that you gave me to do so. In the name of Jesus, Amen!
